OTHER INFORMATION: |
Bowfins belong to the the Amiidae family. As with many other fish species, they possess a rich fossil history. One of the earliest known fossil specimens is around 150 million years old. All the fossils obtained show that bowfins have been exactly the same for millions of years, and have never evolved in any way. There is no difference between the 50-million-year-old bowfin pictured and those alive today.
